According to local Houston news, a fatal incident occurred in downtown Houston on Monday afternoon, January 29, 2024, when a woman pedestrian was tragically struck by a pickup truck. The collision happened as the truck was turning onto a local street, leading to the woman’s untimely death.
Detectives from the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division responded to the scene at the intersection of Milam Street and Walker, a short distance from the HPD headquarters. The accident was reported around 12:25 p.m. in the 900 block of Milam Street.
According to reports from the scene by an Eyewitness News team, the accident occurred when a male driver in a pickup, traveling west on Walker, made a left turn onto Milam and collided with the female pedestrian.
Emergency services quickly transported the woman to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries. The driver involved in the incident stayed at the location until authorities arrived.
It is believed by the police that the woman was crossing the street legally at the time of the accident. Notably, both Walker and Milam streets are designated as one-way roads.
The incident led to ABC13 reporters observing police officers conducting a field sobriety test on the driver. Following the test, the driver was allowed to leave the scene. At the time, no immediate information was available regarding potential charges.
The intersection was closed for investigation and reopened to traffic around 3 p.m., nearly three hours after the tragic event.
