Pasadena Chemical Plant Explosion Injures Worker – Houston Chemical Plant Accident Attorney

Today, a Pasadena, Texas chemical plant explosion injured a worker at the INEOS plant.  The incident involved one large fire and several smaller fires.  Several storage tanks surrounding the plant were also on fire.

The explosion caused the closure of local freeways.   Beltway 8 was closed at Highway 225, but has since re-opened.   The Houston Ship Channel was also closed this morning.  HazMat crews also responded to the incident.

One Worker Confirmed Injured

Unfortunately, one person was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.   The nature of the injuries have not been determined at this time.

At a local press conference, Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia indicated that an investigation is still underway.   The blast involved a BLEVE, which is a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion.   Commissioner Garcia stated that the incident happened at 12:11 pm when liquid petroleum gas was being transferred from one tanker truck to another.  Obviously, something did not go correctly, which caused the explosion.   Air monitoring will continue in Houston, Pasadena, Deer Park, and La Porte.
